A Smart Investment
By Mary Dahm
Remodeling a home is a good investment--for a variety of reasons. In addition to increasing a home's resale value, remodeling enables you to stay in your current neighborhood and schools. Phyllis and Bill Moore wanted their home to reflect what was important to them and to enrich their active lifestyles. With the help of Kerry Bramon Remodeling and Design, the Moores were able to make their dream a reality.
Phyllis started by remodeling the kitchen. "I love to cook, so my kitchen was very important to me," she says. But several things bothered her about her existing kitchen: the cramped area was narrow and needed storage and organization space, and she was unable to open the refrigerator doors all the way without hitting an adjacent wall. An interior wall with a small window separated the kitchen from the living room, and the tight breakfast nook opened out to the deck outside. The choppy floorplan didn't allow for smooth conversation or traffic flow when the Moores entertained family, friends or work associates. "My house was very closed," Phyllis notes, "People couldn't move around much."
