Duncan Porch

Duncan Porch

Doug and Maria Duncan had an east-facing porch that was too hot and bright to enjoy in the summer. They wanted to cover the deck but were concerned that a covered porch would make the house dark by cutting off natural light to the windows. KBRD’s team designed a porch with skylights to give them a comfortable, light-filled space.
The Duncans like to entertain and wanted no-maintenance decking, railings, and posts. The deckboards are a composite material and the deck railings are PVC, a maintenance-free alternative to wood. KBRD changed the access to the backyard by removing and relocating and staircase (which is also maintenance-free). They wanted a part of the deck uncovered for grilling, so there is an 8×10 area uncovered for the barbeque.
